The Global Hornist on NPR/PRX and Atlas Obscura!
First of all: Hello! It’s been a minute. Quite a bit has happened!
Second of all: One of those bits is that I am now the first Black musician to have performed on all seven continents! It’s a cool thing to be able to say, and I’m over the moon about it.
I got to have some very fun conversations last month that I’m excited to share with you here:
The fine folks over at The World, an NPR/PRX- hosted show, interviewed me about what it was like to play and record down at the bottom of the world.
I got to have a longer conversation that same week over on the Atlas Obscura Podcast.
I’m really happy with how both interviews came out, I hope you’ll give them a listen!
Kyra Sims and Ryn Hardiman at the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, Tasmania
I want to write soon about Australia and New Zealand and how it felt to be there as an American, a black woman, and a birder. For now, I want to give a quick shout-out to my amazing colleague Ryn Hardiman, who traveled to the other side of the world to make weird art with me and kicked butt doing it.
And if you’re interested in any non-travel writing from me, I just wrote about and shared a recently unearthed recording from my college days that means a great deal to me over on my Patreon (post is free to read!).
That’s all for now! I hope to have news soon about some Otto in Antarctica performances here in the States very soon. ❤️
